Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept insurance for payment?
How will I know if it is time to engage in couples therapy?
Couples who have reached the point of a repeated conflict cycle and unhappy couples who are on the brink of a breakup are common therapy cases for us. If you are looking for tools to work through relationship problems therapy can provide hands-on resources.
How will I know if I am ready to engage in individual therapy?
Typically, clients start individual therapy when they notice that a problem interfering with their emotional or physical well being. Therapists provide a safe space for clients to explore what is bothering them and provide some ideas about ways to feel better. Some clients want to address problems caused by unresolved trauma and some want to discuss how they can take better care of themselves.
How long are therapy sessions?
Therapy sessions are scheduled in intervals of 50-60 minutes. Some couples prefer 90 minute sessions, which can be accommodated.
How many sessions should I plan to attend? How often?
We suggest that new clients attend sessions weekly at the start of treatment, then once you have started to build momentum with your therapist you can start to space sessions to biweekly, and possibly monthly before terminating. A minimum of 10 sessions is suggested depending on your treatment goals, but many clients decide to continue treatment for longer periods of time.
Why don't you accept insurance?
Why We Don’t Accept Insurance
Our practice is committed to providing high-quality, personalized therapy without the limitations set by insurance companies. While we understand that using insurance can make therapy more affordable in the short term, there are several important reasons why we choose not to accept insurance.
1. Control Over Your Care
Insurance companies determine what they consider “medically necessary” and only cover treatment they deem appropriate. This means they can dictate how many sessions you can have, the type of therapy you can receive, and whether your treatment will be covered at all. By not working with insurance, we ensure that you and your therapist—not an insurance company—have full control over your treatment plan, its length, and the methods used.
2. Long-Term and Specialized Treatment
We specialize in therapy for couples and trauma, both of which often require a long-term, individualized approach. Insurance companies typically favor short-term, symptom-focused treatment, which may not allow for the depth of healing needed. We believe therapy should not be rushed or cut short due to arbitrary coverage limits.
3. No Required Mental Health Diagnosis
Most insurance plans require a mental health diagnosis in order to approve coverage. This can be problematic, especially for clients seeking therapy for personal growth, relationship issues, or life transitions. Not every client has—or needs—a formal diagnosis, and we do not believe in labeling someone unnecessarily just to meet insurance requirements.
4. Flexible Payment Options
While we do not accept insurance, we offer superbills upon request, which you may be able to submit to your insurance provider for partial reimbursement, depending on your plan. We also accept HSA/FSA payments and can discuss payment options to help make therapy more accessible.
